The pre-loaded car GPS navigation systems are convenient option for those who find technology intimidating.

These car GPS navigation systems come pre-loaded with maps and navigation CD which needs to be installed into your car by connecting to your laptop. These pre-loaded GPS systems can be expensive costing 800-1000 dollars but you don't have the hassle of transferring maps and other data from your PC into the GPS device.

If you are technically adept at these things then go ahead and buy the cheaper plain vanilla versions which need to be loaded with the maps etc. But you won't get the voice instructions. You will be guided by may be a series of beeps or on screen directions. This might be disadvantage if you have to take your off the road to look at the screen for directions while driving.

The added features like the latest traffic position on the routes you are taking, weather reports and radio services may require subscription payments. Most of them come free for the first 3 months and after that you have to pay monthly some amount to keep the features.

Other features to look out for in your car GPS tracking systems are proper display screen. A bad one can leave you squinting at it. Proper back lighting, display should look clear in all kinds of lights, large lettering and display buttons. Ease of operation and intuitive interface and menus are important for you to feel comfortable to use your in car GPS systems.

But don't throw away those maps and other navigational aids yet. Remember though car GPS navigation systems is a fail safe satellite system that is highly accurate, there are some places where it might not work or you fail to interpret the instructions correctly or some recent change which is not yet reflected on your GPS system for car. So, use your GPS navigation system for car as a reliable aid but not the only one.
